FAQ
How often do you update your rankings?
Our ranking bars are updated daily based on the average of the last 30 days performance. Data is collected on intervals ranging from 30 seconds to 30 minutes, every day of every week. However, each metric is unique in collection methodology and frequency. Please see our Methodology page for detailed explanations.
How much weight does each metric have for your ranking (uptime, speed, support response)?
We pre-sort our rankings based on the Uptime of each provider. The metrics within a category are not weighted to create the providers position in our list. The user can sort however they prefer simply by clicking on the column headings.
Do your rankings and metrics take into account "all" providers or just the providers you track?
Our ranking methodology uses a proprietary process that only ranks the service providers against the others we monitor. If you have other service providers you would like us to monitor you can submit their URL on our Feedback page and we will evaluate them to see if they meet our criteria for their category of service.
Do service providers pay you for their ranking position?
No. Payments from service providers are tied to standard affiliate programs, referral programs or our internal cost per click program. Our business model is based on creating value for both the consumer and the service provider. The model includes compensation from service providers, but this compensation is not tied in anyway to the rankings or the metrics on our site.
How do you measure the uptime, the speed and the support response time?
We have several monitoring stations across the U.S. and Canada that conduct the tests. Uptime is measured by attempting to download a web page from the actual account we monitor every 30 seconds, from each of our monitoring stations. For the Web Speed the monitoring locations download text and images every 30 minutes. These downloads are timed and recorded. The Support Response Time is measured by submitting tier one technical support questions to the provider's ticket system or support email process. Each ticket is then timed from the submission to closure. Please see our Methodology page for detailed explanations.
What exactly is the "Web Speed Index"?
The index is simply an internal result of converting the technical units of download speed over to a relative unit that can be graphed and compared. First, we calculate how relatively fast each host is compared to the average of all hosts per monitoring station and we then average this relative speed across all monitoring stations to create the overall Web Speed Index.
I'm a service provider; can I add your metrics to my website to show my customers my performance?
Yes. We offer service providers we monitor a full web services API as well as iframe and AJAX solutions for displaying their performance within their own website. For more information, please email us at .
